Audi claims that NIO's decision to name its two models ES6 and ES8 infringes on the trademark rights of Audi's two models, the S6 and S8. An Audi spokesperson confirmed the lawsuit, while a NIO spokesperson said it would not comment on the ongoing lawsuit.
It is reported that currently Audi's S6 and S8 models do not have corresponding ES6 or ES8 versions, only RS6 and RS8, so it is difficult to connect with NIO models.
The NIO ES8 model was released in December 2017, and the ES6 was released in 2018. Since then, both cars have been sold for more than four years, and have sold more than 100,000 units. It is surprising that Audi is protesting against name infringement at this time.
