Warren Buffett speeds past Elon Musk in electric vehicle race
BYD, the Chinese automobile manufacturer that Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway has a minority stake in, has surged past Elon Musk's $Tesla (TSLA.US)$ to become the world's leading EV producer by sales.
According to company filings published on July 3, BYD sold 638,157 electric or plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles between January and June of 2022. The figure represents a nearly 325% year-on-year increase from the same period last year.
On the other hand, Tesla delivered fewer vehicles in the June 2022 ending quarter than analysts had anticipated.
The 254,700 vehicles delivered in Q2 lagged expectations that had already been revised lower, snapping a streak in which Tesla consistently surprised to the upside. Tesla delivered a total of 564,743 vehicles in the first six months of the year.

Over a decade ago, Elon Musk scoffed at the idea that BYD was a legitimate competitor. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
BYD is blowing past its competition, and could start supplying batteries to rival Tesla.
Last month, a BYD executive said that his company was "preparing to supply batteries to Tesla very soon." The potential deal will catapult BYD to become one of the world's most prominent and largest EV and battery manufacturers.

Mike Obama : china wins. EVs are a big blunder. [insert speech]
102624260 : BYD surpasses Tesla, Inc.? This boast is big enough. in the report of BYD's total sales of 641350 vehicles in the first half of the year, in fact, the sales of pure electric vehicles accounted for only 323519, which is still very poor compared with Tesla, Inc. 's total sales of 564743 in the first half of the year. Bragging is greater than reality, and there is more water than strength. So Chinese car companies please show their strength and be careful to be thrown further and further away by Tesla, Inc..
Revelation 6 : Well at least BYD is willing to sell batteries to Tesla. I see an upside in that.
Royall : Sounds bullish. Price targets?
Smiley Tiger 168 102624260 : Cattle fly in the sky, people blow on the ground!
Stack Water : halo.....byd vehicle can be any form. be specified. 2 wheels also vehicle rite
Stack Water 102624260 : I totally agreed. only base on quantity vehicle r not accurate. let compare the total sale in amount which is far behind tesla
