Tesla is no longer the world's biggest electric vehicle maker as the EV pioneer takes a backseat to BYD . The Chinese automaker, which is backed by Warren Buffett, sold 641,350 new energy vehicles in the first six months of 2022, representing a 315% increase from the same period last year. Tesla, on the other hand, only delivered a total of 564,743 vehicles in H1 as it contended with supply chain problems, factory lockdowns and sales disruptions in China.
BYD's figures include electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, while Tesla's only include battery electric cars (it doesn't produce a hybrid). The numbers still highlight the trajectory of BYD's growth, compared to the Elon Musk-run company, which just snapped a two-year streak as deliveries fell 18% last quarter. The developments have also been highlighted in their stock prices, with shares of BYD climbing 15% since the start of the year and Tesla tumbling 42% YTD.

kimo16 : Byd's data is that the gas tram has been added.
TeslaSmurf : It is simply NOT TRUE. The journalist who wrote the article for Bloomberg should be FIRED as he didn’t consider that in BYD total production are still considered the cars with a combustion engine with an added electric motor (the hybrids). That said, and considering that Tesla was OBLIGED to shut down the Shanghai factory for almost a month, losing nearly 100.000 cars, Tesla remains BY FAR the number one builder of PURE ELECTRIC cars.
In addition to that, Tesla reported a 30% + margin on each car, while ALL the others, BYD included, struggle to get a small profit because of the production technologies and it’s uniquely efficient and adaptable vertical integration.
If you need to know something about Tesla and other cars ask papa Tesla Smurf
wafflewolfeh TeslaSmurf : At the current pace of Byd's production growth do you ever see BYD overtaking Tesla's production? If so how long more? Also, Tesla is quite infamous with it's production quality right? They had a large recall just quite recently. How badly will recalls eat into their 30+% margins?
EverDust : Sigh, why keep compare compare, both are earning money in the long term, why not invest in both. I believe both have alot of potential moving forward compare to other evs. But the current P/E of BYD is overvalued at 211. However, I will still refrain from buying BYD due to it might become the next evergrande or baba stock.
JJ Hou OP EverDust : Humans tend too, but at least this is not a comparison between high SES v low SEs
N my qns incld wat s the diffce between the two tickers? Byddf v bydd… no1 ans and spent enrgy on seeing it as a form of comparison
EverDust JJ Hou OP : 1 is listed in US, 1 is listed in HK. If one day the ccp want remove all their listings in the US, it will be merge with the HK stock of that company.
JJ Hou OP EverDust : Somehow i saw both are listed in usa, hence i was puzzled!!!
EverDust JJ Hou OP : The difference is $BYD Company ADR (BYDDY.US)$ trade twice the price of $BYD Co. (BYDDF.US)$, 1 share of $BYD Company ADR (BYDDY.US)$ is equal to 2 shares of $BYD Co. (BYDDF.US)$.
JJ Hou OP EverDust : Ok but both are on usa right?
EverDust JJ Hou OP : Yes, both represent the same company. Some brokers allow to trade byd in US listing.
