AU Morning Wrap: ASX opens 0.6% higher, energy shares lead with 1.9% gain
Wall Street Summary
US stocks broke a five-session losing run as the nascent Q2 corporate earnings season took a turn for the better and retail sales and consumer sentiment data beat expectations. Fed officials continued to downplay the likelihood of a 100 basis point rate hike next week.
The $S&P 500 Index (.SPX.US)$ surged 73 points or 1.92 per cent. The $Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJI.US)$ climbed 658 points or 2.15 per cent. The $Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC.US)$ added 201 points or 1.79 per cent.

AU Market Watch
Australia's S&P/ASX 200 is poised to open strongly after U.S. stocks rebounded at the end of last week. ASX futures are 0.9% higher after a fresh round of bank earnings and stronger-than-expected retail data helped major U.S. indices pare weekly losses.

Australian shares opened higher this morning. The $S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ gained 0.59 per cent to 6644 as of 10:15 am.
