The share market logged its best week since March as a six-week high on Wall Street bolstered confidence this year's market rout may be easing.
The $S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ eased three points or 0.04 per cent today, narrowly missing a third straight gain. The index poked its head above 6800 for the first time since mid-June before closing at 6791.5.
Today's advance increased the index's tally for the week to 186 points or 2.8 per cent, the best result since a 3.25 per cent rally mid-March.
Gains today in banking, tech and property stocks mostly offset declines in resources and utilities.
This week's wild recovery in buy now, pay later companies continued as investors continued to look for value in this year's worst-performing pockets of the market. $Zip Co Ltd (ZIP.AU)$ jumped 13.55 per cent. Shares that traded as low as 43.5 cents last month hit 93 cents today.
$Sezzle Inc (SZL.AU)$ surged 20 per cent. $Splitit Payments Ltd (SPT.AU)$ gained 2.33 per cent.
Energy stocks were the session's biggest drag after a 2.9 per cent reversal in crude prices overnight. $Santos Ltd (STO.AU)$ dropped 3.03 per cent, $Woodside Energy Group Ltd (WDS.AU)$ 0.55 per cent and $Beach Energy Ltd (BPT.AU)$ 0.56 per cent.
