US stocks finished mixed at the end of a see-saw session as investors positioned for this week's risk events. The Federal Reserve meets tonight and will deliver its rates decision on Wednesday. Microsoft and Alphabet report earnings tonight. Quarterly GDP and trading updates from Apple and Amazon follow on Thursday.

"Right now we're just in a holding pattern waiting for all those developments to play out," Michael O'Rourke, chief market strategist at JonesTrading, told Reuters.
"Obviously, we're seeing some more weakness in the tech names. People are probably just taking some risk off ahead of the earnings.”
The $S&P 500 Index (.SPX.US)$ edged up five points or 0.13 per cent. The $Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJI.US)$ gained 91 points or 0.28 per cent. The $Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC.US)$ fell 51 points or 0.43 per cent.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 looks set to resume its recent climb at the open following consecutive flat finishes. ASX futures are up by 0.35%, suggesting the benchmark index will add to the 5.5% it has gained since June 20. The ASX 200 added 2.8% last week for its strongest week since March but has stalled over the past two sessions. Gains by mining stocks offset losses elsewhere on Monday.
