AU Evening Wrap: July brings joy to battered market

The share market wrapped up its first positive month since March with a fourth day of gains as a broad rally lifted ten of eleven sectors.
The $S&P/ASX 200(.XJO.AU)$ climbed 55.5 points or 0.81 per cent to 6945.
Gold miners, property stocks and utilities topped the gainers' list, giving today's advance a mildly defensive tone. This week's explosive rally in buy now, pay later companies ended on a sour note as most of the sector leaders suffered heavy falls.
Property stocks were the most obvious beneficiaries. $Charter Hall Group(CHC.AU)$ climbed 5.12 per cent. Industrial heavyweight $Goodman Group(GMG.AU)$ put on 4.6 per cent, $Centuria Capital Group(CNI.AU)$ 3.48 per cent and $Lendlease Group(LLC.AU)$ 3.32 per cent.
Utilities also drew a bid. $Origin Energy Ltd(ORG.AU)$ firmed 4.21 per cent after reporting a 4 per cent increase in domestic gas sales volumes last quarter. Full-year electricity sales volumes increased 6 per cent.
$AGL Energy Ltd(AGL.AU)$ added 1.21 per cent. $APA Group(APA.AU)$ advanced 1.84 per cent.
This week's spectacular recovery in buy now, pay later companies and other fintechs began to unravel. $Zip Co Ltd(ZIP.AU)$ reversed 25.33 per cent. $Laybuy Group Holdings Ltd(LBY.AU)$ dropped 23.33 per cent, $Openpay Group Ltd(OPY.AU)$ 29 per cent and $Humm Group Ltd(HUM.AU)$ 5.66 per cent.
