Aug 16: ASX takeaways
The ASX 200 index $ASX Ltd (ASX.AU)$ rose 18.70 points or 0.26% to 7.083 at the open. The ASX All Ordinaries index rose 0.235% to 7,342. In the US, the Dow Jones $Dow Jones U.S. Index (.DJUS.US)$ surged 0.45%, the S&P 500 $S&P 500 Index (.SPX.US)$ gained 0.4%, and the NASDAQ $Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ.US)$ rose 0.6%.
On the ASX, consumer staples and utilities were the best performing sectors, both rising over 1%.
