Alibaba's OceanBase database exports out of China

Alibaba and its financial services arm, Ant Financial, have launched a version of its OceanBase distributed relational database to target markets outside of China.

OceanBase supports HTAP and can run on basic terminals like the Raspberry Pi.

Recently released, OceanBase 4.0 can run on basic terminals - nodes, in the world of distributed databases - such as Raspberry Pi, and it is MySQL compatible. "The features of this latest version make it usable by small and medium-sized businesses," Alibaba said.

This version also brings some features and improvements, for example, a zero data loss rate and a disaster recovery time of less than eight seconds, compared to 30 seconds for the previous version.
