Samsung, Qualcomm, TSMC accused of violating U.S. tariff laws and infringing patents.

Qualcomm $Qualcomm (QCOM.US)$ , Samsung $SAMSUNG EL 144 (SSNGY.US)$ and TSM $Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM.US)$ will be investigated by the U.S. International Trade Commission for certain devices and integrated circuits after the Commission received a potential complaint alleging tax law violations by the companies and a potential patent infringement complaint.

The complaint, filed by Daedalus Prime LLC of Bronxville, New York, alleges that the companies committed tax violations in connection with the importation of certain integrated circuits, mobile devices containing those integrated circuits and their components.

The complaint, Docket Nos. 3640 and 3641, was filed by Daedalus Prime LLC on Sept. 13 against Qualcomm, Samsung Electronics and its U.S. companies, and TSMC and its North American companies, all under Section 337 of the U.S. Tariff Act of 1930, according to the filing.

Daedalus Prime LLC also recently filed several patent infringement lawsuits against Mazda, Qualcomm, Samsung Electronics, TSMC and other companies, involving more than 16 patents. Among them, the lawsuit against Qualcomm claims to own six patents related to power budgeting and control of operating voltage within semiconductor chipsets used in automotive infotainment systems.
