Why is such a big leap of faith only of interest to Apple?
TSMC $Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM.US)$ is left with only Apple $Apple (AAPL.US)$ , which means it is looking for other more profitable markets and giving them a higher priority, such as robotics or automotive, or even other related areas such as the new panel Mini LED and its controller.
Compared to N5, this new N3 consumes 30% less power for the same performance, or if we want, increase the performance by 15%, it consumes the same power as N5. Likewise, the density will increase by 70% and the area will be reduced by no less than 42%. Seeing these numbers it is hard to understand that all three do not want such a node, but the reality is that Intel will continue to use TSMC's 5nm for the Meteor Lake iGPU .
AMD has no intention of using them as it will use the current N5 and N4X for Zen 4. 2023 will be the time to optimize this strategy and 2024 will come with Zen 5, when it seems that 3nm TSMC chips will be the case, mainly because 2nm is not expected, so Zen 5 will try to arrive with the high performance N3X.
