Over nearly 7 years, $Apple(AAPL.US)$ and $Spotify Technology(SPOT.US)$ have had a long running dispute over the rules Apple imposes on apps and its practice of collecting a 30% fee on the services and products that apps sell.

After a series of confrontations between the two companies, they are once again feuding as Spotify attempts to break into the audiobook market.

Spotify launched its audiobooks business in late September. Now, the streaming giant says that Apple will not allow Spotify to explain to users where and how to buy an audiobook or list the cost of the book and will not let the company send emails directing users to purchase the book.

According to New York Times, Apple has rejected Spotify's latest app update three times in the last month, saying that its new audiobooks offering broke Apple's rules governing how developers can communicate with customers about online purchases.

"With our Audiobooks launch, Apple has once again proven just how brazen it is willing to be with its App Store rules, constantly shifting the goalposts to disadvantage their competitors," Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said in a statement.

Spotify views Apple as a competitor due to its rival streaming service, Apple Music, which offers music as well as audiobooks.

$Meta Platforms(META.US)$ isn't happy about Apple's 30% fee, too. It said in a statement that "Apple continues to evolve its policies to grow their own business while undercutting others in the digital economy."

As both YouTube Premium and Apple Music increased their monthly subscription fees in the US on Monday, CEO Daniel Ek said Spotify is considering one as well during the company's third-quarter earnings call on Tuesday.

"When our competitors are raising their prices, that is really good for us," he said, noting that the company has raised prices more than 46 times in markets around the world.
He believed Spotify had "significant pricing power," thanks in part to lower churn than rivals, such as Apple Music.

Apple has made the App Store a centerpiece of its strategy. The store, which is estimated to generate about $24 billion in annual sales from the 30 percent fees it collects, has little overhead and generates profits of nearly 80 percent, according to testimony and documents discussed as part of an antitrust lawsuit brought by Epic Games.

mooers, do you still support Apple this time? Any thoughts about Apple's App Store rules?
