Thoughts on Consumer Staples ETFs for the long-term?

Was looking into this. I have VDC and XLP on my watch list. What are your thoughts on these ETFs? I can see how this can be put into a portfolio as a glorified savings account.

Any pros and cons on Consumer Staple ETFs you all like to share?
