Australia's $S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ closed 0.2% lower at 7133.9, slipping to a third consecutive loss amid continued worries over the potential impact of interest-rate rises.
The benchmark index oscillated between small losses and gains through the session, eventually finishing lower despite gains by commodity stocks.
The heavyweight financial sector dropped 0.3%, pulled down by losses among wealth managers. Banks $Westpac Banking Corp (WBC.AU)$, $CommBank (CBA.AU)$ and $National Australia Bank Ltd (NAB.AU)$ gave up between 0.2% and 0.5%, while $ANZ Group Holdings Ltd (ANZ.AU)$ gained 0.4%.
$The Star Entertainment Group Ltd (SGR.AU)$ was the worst performing ASX 200 component, shedding 18% amid worries that the New South Wales state government's proposal to raise casino taxes could wipe out earnings at Star's Sydney venue.
