TSMC: Why Buffett's Buying Big

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway bought an over $4 billion stake in TSMC in Q3, 2022.

Buffett’s accumulation of Taiwan Semiconductor may be a hedge, and one that has big implications for Apple, Berkshire, and index investors.

One glaring issue for TSMC is its $40 billion investment in Arizona; let’s just say, it may disappoint investors.
Despite this, I estimate long-term returns of 12% per annum for TSMC. $Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM.US)$

I've been watching the semiconductor industry since 2020, but missed both the boom and the bust. In 2020, companies like Intel $Intel (INTC.US)$ looked exceptionally cheap, but I hated the performance of their chips. Advanced Micro Devices $Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.US)$ , on the other hand, was seen as a growth machine, but turned out to be more of a bubble.
