  • doctorpot1 : a stop limit doesn't guarantee that you will be able to sell the stock at your limit price. especially when there is a gap down.

    if your stop's limit is $40, then the price crash suddenly to $35, the order won't go through because no one want to buy from you at $40, they are buying from sellers that sells at $35 instead.

    do be aware of this risk when limit order is used, limit doesnt guarantee a sell or a buy. Market order does almost guarantees a sell or a buy, but it doesn't guarantee you a price that you like.
