Australia's $S&P/ASX 200(.XJO.AU$ closed 0.6% higher at 7558.1, completing its longest run of weekly gains since August. The benchmark index rose steadily through the session after a largely positive lead from U.S. stocks, finishing 0.9% higher for the week. Its fifth consecutive weekly gain moved it 7.4% higher so far in 2023, handily erasing its 5.45% decline across 2022.
The health, real-estate and financial sectors led gains, with only utilities and materials finishing lower. Vaccine maker $CSL Ltd(CSL.AU$ rose 3.0% to a fresh record close of A$313.81.
It was the ASX 200's highest close since April.
