Options Market Statistics (2/16): Short Seller Ramped Up Bets Against Tesla Last Quarter

$Tesla(TSLA.US)$ has sold out its popular Model Y crossover vehicles for the first quarter, said Electrek on Wednesday. The estimated delivery times for Model Ys on Tesla's U.S. website now shows April to June.

Jim Chanos ramped up his bet on Tesla shares to tumble, and placed wagers against a raft of meme stocks, cryptocurrency companies, and high-flying technology names last quarter. The famed short seller's fund, Chanos & Company, held bearish put options on 5,900 Tesla shares at the end of September. It boosted that to 131,000 shares as of December 31, a Securities and Exchange Commission filing revealed on Tuesday.

Bloomberg News reported Wednesday that the headset is now planned to debut at Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference, after product testing found improvements were needed on both the hardware and software sides. $Apple(AAPL.US)$ shares jumped 1.39%, with option volume of nearly 1.09 million, and calls accounted for 56% of the volume. The 155.00 calls expiring this Friday were traded most actively.

$Alphabet-C(GOOG.US)$ is reportedly improving the accuracy of its newest language model for dialogue application, Bard — and it's doing so through the manual contribution of its employees. Alphabet shares jumped more than 2%, with option volume of nearly 680,000, and calls accounted for 79% of the volume. The 100.00 calls expiring this Friday were traded most actively.

The founder of online community WallStreetBets is suing Reddit, the social media platform from which it inspired the meme stock frenzy of 2021. $AMC Entertainment(AMC.US)$ shares jumped nearly 15%, with option volume of nearly 620,000, and calls accounted for 68.9% of the volume.

$Shopify(SHOP.US)$ shares raillied over 6%, with volume nearly 2x normal at nearly 345,000 contracts, and calls accounted for 64.3% of the volume.
