Tesla is slowly increasing the price for Made-in-China Model Y
$Tesla(TSLA.US$ just raised the prices of Model Y by 2,000 Yuan ($290) each
- Long Range: now sells at 311,900 yuan ($45,360), a 0.64% increase
- Performance: now sells at 361,900 yuan ($52,600), a 0.55% increase
This marks the second time Tesla has raised its MiC Model3/Y prices in 2023 (the previous one was done in early February), and oddly it came after their huge price cut of both the models by ~6 to 13.5% in early January, which saw an 18% m-o-m growth of vehicle delivery in January by delivering 66,051 vehicles.
According to Reuters, Tesla’s EV market share increased to 12.5% (from 9% in December) after their price cuts. In my opinion this is Tesla flexing its pricing power at its best as they are the pure EV industry leader by far and are able to throttle their prices in order to compensate for the lack of demand in various markets.
