Facebook Will No Longer Be Free, WHAT??! ๐ต
๐ต Facebook $Meta Platforms (META.US)$ has announced the rollout of paid subscriptions to get an additional stream of revenue.
On Sunday, Mark Zuckerberg, announced the introduction of a new service called "Meta Verified." The service, which starts at US$11.99 (S$16) per month, is designed to verify one's account through the submission of a government ID, similar to a move made by Elon Musk on Twitter.
Once verified, subscribers will receive a badge indicating the authentication of their account, along with enhanced protection against impersonation, direct access to customer support, and increased visibility on the platforms. According to Facebook, the service is mainly targeted toward content creators seeking to expand their reach and may undergo modifications following a trial period.
Currently, advertising contributes over 98% of the companyโs revenue. Such a move is seen to be Metaโs effort to increase its revenue stream.
However, the price tag of US$11.99 (S$16) per month is not cheap. Based on the current proposal, it may not be attractive for content creators to start paying for it. ๐ค๐ค Will you pay Facebook to get verified?
