AU Evening Wrap: ASX Ends the Week 0.3% Lower in Fourth Weekly Loss

Shares traded stronger on Friday on the Australian stock exchange, but the $S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ ended the week 0.3 per cent lower in the fourth consecutive weekly loss.
The S&P/ASX 200 rose 28.2 points, or 0.4 per cent, to finish the day's trading at 7283.60.
Mining and energy stocks lifted the index on hopes that China's economic recovery will spur demand. China is Australia's biggest customer of commodities, particularly iron ore.
$Rio Tinto Ltd (RIO.AU)$ advanced 1.6 per cent. $BHP Group Ltd (BHP.AU)$ tacked on 0.56 per cent. Lithium, coal and some gold miners also made headway. $Liontown Resources Ltd (LTR.AU)$ jumped 13.19 per cent, $Ramelius Resources Ltd (RMS.AU)$ 5.58 per cent and $New Hope Corp Ltd (NHC.AU)$ 1.41 per cent.
$Oz Minerals Ltd (OZL.AU)$ dipped 0.04 per cent after an independent expert concluded a $9.6 billion takeover offer from BHP was fair and reasonable. Grant Samuel said the offer of $28.25 per share was in the best interests of shareholders in the absence of a superior proposal. Oz directors have unanimously recommended the offer.
$Nickel Industries Ltd (NIC.AU)$ dropped 0.48 per cent to $1.03 after raising $34.6 million from shareholders at $1.02 per share.
