New to investing
so i bought the stock at around $22.5 USD and it went up to $23USD
but on 4th april it dropped to $19 USD could anyone please explain what happened thank you very much !

HowDidIHuatSoFast : near the date of distributing dividend, alot of people buy to qualify for the dividend causing the price to go up.
after dividend is distributed, the asset of the company in terms of cash lessen, and it will be some time before the next dividend, so people sell the share causing the price to fall.
102355167 OP 皆赫 : So to confirm my understanding , because I did not qualify for the dividends due to buying too late , dividends are still being deducted and distributed to shareholders causing the price to fall from 23USD to 19 USD ?

Wealth Magnet : if u had observed it closely, it goes like this. the previous closing price was $23.40 and then it dropped to exactly $17.00 which was a $6.40 drop, most probably because they took part of the share price to pay investors back and then ZIM went up to $19+ and now back to $17+
