AU Evening Wrap: ASX Falls 0.1% at Close; Iron Ore Miners Slump

The $S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ fell 0.1 per cent, or by 8.4 points to 7322 at market close on Monday, weighed by losses in the materials and energy sector.
Major mining companies were in the red, with $South32 Ltd (S32.AU)$ among the worst performing stocks. Its shares tumbled 7.4 per cent after the miner revealed that its March quarter production lowered. $BHP Group Ltd (BHP.AU)$ shares fell 1.9 per cent. $Fortescue Ltd (FMG.AU)$ dropped 3.4 per cent.
It comes as iron ore slumped to its lowest since early December, futures traded on the Singapore index showed that it lost as much as 3.5 per cent today due to the lack of significant increase in Chinese steel consumption.
Funeral services provider $InvoCare Ltd (IVC.AU)$ was the worst performing stock, plunging 8.5 per cent after US private equity firm $TPG Telecom Ltd (TPG.AU)$ pulled out its takeover bid.
The information technology sector gained 1 per cent. $Nanosonics Ltd (NAN.AU)$ was the best performing stock today, it increased 7.5 per cent.
Despite REIT's being the best performing sector, up 1.2 per cent, $Lendlease Group (LLC.AU)$ shares dropped 3 per cent.
