The $S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ pared earlier losses to close 5.7 points lower at 7316.3 on Wednesday after core inflation for the first quarter came in weaker-than-expected.
$Mineral Resources Ltd (MIN.AU)$ sank 9.7 per cent to $72.59 after slashing full-year production guidance for its core mining services division.
The major miners trimmed earlier losses as iron ore prices climbed throughout the session; $BHP Group Ltd (BHP.AU)$ eased 0.4 per cent to $44 and $Fortescue Ltd (FMG.AU)$ shed 0.5 per cent to $20.66.
$Kogan.com Ltd (KGN.AU)$ jumped 7.2 per cent to $3.86 after reporting three consecutive months of positive group adjusted EBITDA, and that it intends to undertake a buyback.
$The a2 Milk Co Ltd (A2M.AU)$ fell 5.1 per cent to $5.42 after warning that FY23 revenue growth is expected to be at the low end of its previous expectations.
Gold miners were among the strong performers as the price of the precious metal benefited from safehaven flows; $Gold Road Resources Ltd (GOR.AU)$ added 4.7 per cent to $1.88 and $Evolution Mining Ltd (EVN.AU)$ climbed 3.5 per cent to $3.56.
