Do you think Warren Buffett will discuss the topic of investing in Japan at the annual meeting?
Previously, Buffett visited Japan and mentioned in an interview that he had increased his stake to 7.4% in each of the five major Japanese companies and added that he would consider further investments. These five companies are famous Japanese trading companies, whose consortium controls almost 99% of large-scale production and trading companies in Japan, with investments covering global oil, natural gas, and mineral resources.
Berkshire Hathaway has more stocks in Japan than any other country outside the United States. Buffett’s interest is “a reminder that there are attractive and well-priced investment opportunities in Japan,” said Lorraine Tan, director of equity research at Morningstar Asia. In addition, Berkshire Hathaway has become one of the largest foreign issuers of Japanese yen bonds.
