StockTalk (5.12): The Construction of JB-Singapore RTS Link on S'pore side has reached 50% mark - What can we expect?
Transport Minister S. Iswaran announced yesterday that the construction of the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link has reached the halfway mark on the Singapore side, and the project remains on track to start operations by end-2026. Mr Iswaran said the RTS Link is an important bilateral project that will help to alleviate congestion on the Causeway and improve connectivity between Singapore and Johor Bahru. “More importantly, it will also strengthen ties between our two countries and our peoples,” he added.
Given the impact of recent historic events and the Covid-19 pandemic, reaching this milestone in the construction of the RTS Link is a significant achievement. What impact do you think the completion of the RTS Link will have on Singapore's economy and society? Will the RTS Link provide new job and business opportunities? If so, in what sectors? Do you have any concerns regarding the impact of the RTS Link on Singapore's environment and society?

Perry peh : good
Moogoorooloo : Easier travel across the Causeway will attract more Malaysians to find work in Singapore. Employers will have a larger pool of workers to choose from, especially for positions that Singaporeans do not want to fill. Singaporeans may also find it easier to visit Johor Bahru for their weekend shopping,
Woodlands will be a vibrant town to live in, though the residents may need to contend with congestion on the North-South and Thomson-East Coast lines.
Overall, the RTS Link should benefit both countries. Its economic and societal impact will be evident in 3 years, upon its completion.
ZnWC : The RST link when completed will provide additional public transport for the citizens from both side. The project will benefits the commuter who needs to travel frequently.
But I doubt the congestion at the causeway will ease because travel by car is still the most viable option to travel in Malaysia.
The positive outcome will be it may the start of building mass transit transportation in JB which can ease the traffic congestion.
doctorpot1 : the best thing about the RTS Link is that Malaysian that work or study in Singapore but have to travel to and fro daily, would have a faster journey. I heard stories of children waking up at 4am just to take a bus to Singapore and going back home very late. I hope the RTS speed is fast so that it can save them lots of times in the journey.
It is great for us Singaporean too, we can travel to Malaysia as though we are going to Orchard road for shopping hehehehe
费北敬 : Good, now m come sg work.... next time the young generation of sg can go m work liao....
GodSpeed289 : The improved connectivity between Singapore and JB could also create new job opportunities for both sides, particularly in sectors such as transportation, logistics, and tourism. This could help boost employment and stimulate economic growth. With more people using public transport to travel, it will help reduce traffic congestion. Lastly, it could also lead to a boost in property prices in areas around the RTS Link stations, particularly in JB.
moohehe : win win situation. Singaporeans can do more shopping and Malaysians can earn more. Complain all we want, but foreign talents are here to stay.
No_Horse_Run_4896 : It will greatly help in lesser travel time for both SG and MY
EYSY : I would think some positive impact on Singapore's economy as it provides more labor as Singapore's population is still relatively small. It'll help fill up jobs that Singaporean does not want to take.
In terms of new jobs and business opportunities, maybe operation of RTS and food establishment near the RTS.
It'll definitely help with Singapore environment, with less pollution around the causeway area.
