Stock prices can be highly volatile during the earnings season. Some traders take positions before the results are released, hoping to reap the gains if the earnings reports prove them right.
I know of another activity that shares the same modus operandi, except that the participants are called gamblers instead of traders.
Unless there is an amazing investment opportunity, or some other compelling reasons to trade, I would prefer to wait for the results to be released and the hype to die down before adjusting my portfolio.
