New NISA Index Investments

I'm thinking of starting index investment with the new NISA for the purpose of asset formation in old age. Currently, I'm 33 years old and plan to deposit 50,000 yen a month at a time. I was thinking of investing in the S&P 500 or US stocks (VTI), but I was at a loss when I saw on Buffett Taro's YouTube video that there is a high possibility that US stocks will be sluggish for the next 20 to 30 years. Thank you so much for your advice.

  • バフェット太郎 : If you aim to maximize assets, I think VTI is good, and if you want to build assets while suppressing risk, I think Orcan is good. Also, to correct the content of the question, the slump period for US stocks that I anticipate is not “the next 20 to 30 years,” but “until around 2040.”

There are two main reasons why I'm pessimistic about US stocks.

1: Investment targets that have boomed in the past 10 years tend to be sluggish for the next 10 years.
2: The 60-year cycle of long-term interest rates suggests the possibility that they will peak in 2040.

For these two reasons, US stocks cannot be expected to perform as before, and I think there is a possibility that they will be content with returns in the first half of the single-digit range.

However, if long-term interest rates enter a downward trend again after 2040, I think stock prices will rise significantly as stock valuations improve.
