Long-Term Government Bonds

EDV, TLT, and VGLT have been quite cheap over the past 10 years, but considering that a recession will come in the future, what do you think of the strategy of steadily buying more every time it falls from now on?

  • 181148115 : I don't have many EDVs, but I have them.
Maybe now is the time to buy it.
Well, if the current level continues, all you have to do is buy quietly.

  • バフェット太郎 : I think an investment period of 1 to 2 years would be good.

If we enter a recession, “escape to quality” will occur, so I think long-term bonds, which are safe assets, will be bought. Therefore, investing in long-term bond ETFs can be expected to have both capital gains and income gains in the short term.

However, the long-term outlook for 2040 is pessimistic.

Looking back on the long history of long-term US interest rates, long-term interest rates peaked in a 60-year cycle of 1800, 1860, 1920, and 1980, so the next peak will be in 2040.

Above all, the fragmentation of the world is now deepening, and breaking away from dollar dependency is accelerating, mainly in emerging and developing countries, so I think it will be difficult for US bonds to be bought in the future.
