Brain chip firm Neuralink won approval for human study.
The business was dealt a setback in Dec last year, after reportedly coming under investigation for alleged animal welfare violations in its work.
Reuters, citing sources familiar with the investigation and internal company documents, reports that the company has killed about 1,500 animals since 2018 including pigs, sheep and monkeys.
The technology is not new. BBC news reported yesterday that Swiss researchers use brain implants to help a paralysed man walk. A paralysed man from the Netherlands was able to walk simply by thinking about it - thanks to a system of implants which wirelessly transmit his thoughts to his legs and feet.
