BYD posts record electric vehicle sales in May as it chases down Tesla

BYD continued its astonishing growth in the EV market, selling 119,603 BEVs in May as it seeks to knock Tesla off its perch.

The May number took BYD's annualised sales rate to 1.4 m BEVs, slightly higher than Tesla's 2022 total sales of 1.3 m, although Tesla hopes to sell 2 m EVs in CY2023.
The May BEV sales numbers represent a 124% yoy sales growth, according to CnEVPost. May sales were up 14.6% mom.
