$SIA (C6L.SG)$ By giving a $0.28 dividend, the underlying stock price should go up by only $0.28?, and drop back by the same amount once the dividend is payout? consider these..
1. This is a loss making company during the pandemic, and with a competent management and committed staff, it was a corporate miracle that recover the fastest among its peers.
2. The company willingness to payout sizable amount of dividend to shareholders at the very first instance from loss to profit.
3. By giving out this dividend, the company also projected much greener pasture ahead.
All these only warrant an increase in the underlying stock price by just the dividend payout amount? Mind you, the stock market is always forward looking, and all these add up. Not a simple case of $6 + $0.28, and pull back $0.28 when the dividend is paid.
I am not suggesting that SIA is a buy, hold or sell at this level. But just stating you have to look further then simple maths.
