AU Evening Wrap: ASX Rises 1.1%; AGL Shares Rally 9.7%

The benchmark $S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ rose 1.1 per cent, or 75.9 points to 7251.2, its highest level since May 23.

The energy sector jumped 3.5 per cent and was the best performing. $Woodside Energy Group Ltd (WDS.AU)$ gained 3.5 per cent to $35.63, $Santos Ltd (STO.AU)$ rose 4.1 per cent to $7.60 and $Whitehaven Coal Ltd (WHC.AU)$ was 8.3 per cent higher to $6.94.

$AGL Energy Ltd (AGL.AU)$ was the standout, its shares surged 9.7 per cent to $10.60 after an earnings profit upgrade for this financial year and next.

$Xero Ltd (XRO.AU)$ rose 2.6 per cent to $116.72 a share, pacing a rally in US tech stocks. Citi wrote in a note that the company's latest price rises in Australia and New Zealand would lift the average revenue per user by more than previously expected.
