Breaking News
Singapore and Sichuan companies signed six new memoranda of understanding (MOUs) at a trade and investment meeting in Chengdu on Sunday (Jun 25). These collaborations signal Singapore companies' continued interest in Sichuan, said Minister of Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry Tan See Leng.
Dr Tan was speaking at the 23rd Singapore-Sichuan Trade and Investment Committee (SSTIC) meeting, which was attended by Sichuan governor and Sichuan adviser for the SSTIC Huang Qiang.
Dr Tan co-chaired the meeting alongside Sichuan vice-governor Yang Xingping. The minister noted the "strength and resilience of Singapore-Sichuan economic relations". Bilateral trade reached an all-time high of US$2.7 billion in 2022, growing 38.9 per cent on year.
Singapore may soon launch new guidelines to value intangible assets (IA) such as trademarks and patents to plug gaps in existing IA valuation practice.
The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) is seeking a contractor to propose an outline for new IA valuation guidelines, after identifying issues with existing practices, according to tender documents on the government portal, Gebiz.
Stocks to Watch
$YZJ Shipbldg SGD (BS6.SG)$: Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (Holdings) has secured a contract from repeat customer Klaveness Combination Carriers to build three 83,300 dwt vessels for delivery in 2026, the company announced on Sunday (Jun 25).
No contract value was disclosed. The order comes after Yangzijiang delivered eight combination carriers to the customer between 2019 and 2021.
The new combination carriers ordered can transport both dry and wet bulk cargo. They are more likely to be used on both legs of the journey, and therefore more efficient than single-purpose vessels, the company said.
$MoneyMax Fin (5WJ.SG)$: MoneyMax Financial Services is deepening its presence in Malaysia, touting its drive-through pawnshops as a differentiator. This follows its entry into the market under its own brand name for the first time in 2022.
The Catalist-listed pawnbroker last year opened 10 new stores in Malaysia: eight in Johor Bahru (JB), one in Selangor and another in Penang. Since May this year, it has added two more stores, in JB and Penang. It now has 43 stores in Malaysia – slightly less than the 49 in its home market of Singapore.
