AU Evening Wrap: ASX Ends Flat, Tech Stocks Rally

The $S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ finished flat at 7194.9 after the gains recorded in technology stocks failed to outpace the losses in mining, real estate and utilities.

Information technology was the best performer, up 1.8 per cent. $WiseTech Global Ltd (WTC.AU)$ shares rallied 2.2 per cent, $Xero Ltd (XRO.AU)$ 2.3 per cent, $Nextdc Ltd (NXT.AU)$ 1.6 per cent and $Technology One Ltd (TNE.AU)$ 1.6 per cent.

Iron ore producers were in the red. Iron ore futures traded lower on the Singapore exchange, down 1.1 per cent to $US112.10 a tonne on the July contract. $BHP Group Ltd (BHP.AU)$ shed 1 per cent and $Rio Tinto Ltd (RIO.AU)$ 1.2 per cent.

$St Barbara Ltd (SBM.AU)$ lost 1.1 per cent after the gold miner announced the appointment of a CEO.

$Transurban Group (TCL.AU)$ shares dropped 2.1 per cent after the ACCC raised concerns about its proposed acquisition of a majority interest in Horizon Roads.

The worst-performing stock at the market close was $Bega Cheese Ltd (BGA.AU)$, down 6.1 per cent.
