Manchester United - Still loss-making and no change in owners

Fast forward to today, even after the recent quarterly results are out, the Glazers are not out from the club, yet.

Results were lackluster, and there is no way that owning Manchester United is for-profit purposes.

Here are some key points from Manchester United's Q3'23 results.

Even though it has been more than a full year after the reopening of the economy, it is strange to see Manchester United's revenue just growing by a mere 3.5% for 9M'23.

Broadcasting revenue suffered a 20.3% drop YoY due to the men's first team participating in the UEFA Europa League, compared to the UEFA Champions League in prior years.

Commercial revenue and matchday revenue partially offset the drop in broadcasting revenue.

To attract the best talent, clubs need to pay good wages.

For the latest quarter, player wages contributed to 48% of total operating expenses. This is almost the same for the entire 9M'23.

It's hard to believe that even though the team is not performing at its best, rich billionaires are not willing to sell the club cheaply, while prospective new owners are willing to pay exorbitant money to own the club.
