AU Evening Wrap: ASX Rises 0.4%; Energy Stocks Rally as Oil Prices Advance

The $S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ rose 0.4 per cent, or 26.8 points to 7135.7 at the closing bell, buoyed by energy and mining stocks.
Energy stocks were among the best performers as oil prices advanced. $Woodside Energy Group Ltd (WDS.AU)$ shares rose 2.7 per cent, $Santos Ltd (STO.AU)$ 1.2 per cent, $Whitehaven Coal Ltd (WHC.AU)$ 1.1 per cent and $Karoon Energy Ltd (KAR.AU)$ 2.5 per cent.
Iron ore futures traded higher on the Singapore exchange in late afternoon trading, up 2 per cent to $US110.30 a tonne on the July contract.
The big miners advanced. $BHP Group Ltd (BHP.AU)$ shares rallied 1.7 per cent, $Fortescue Ltd (FMG.AU)$ 2.5 per cent and $Rio Tinto Ltd (RIO.AU)$ 1.6 per cent.
Gold producers were an exception and were among the worst performers. $Bellevue Gold Ltd (BGL.AU)$ shares dropped 7.2 per cent, $Perseus Mining Ltd (PRU.AU)$ 2.1 per cent and $Emerald Resources NL (EMR.AU)$ 3.9 per cent.
In company news, $Incitec Pivot Ltd (IPL.AU)$ jumped 5.4 per cent after it confirmed that had received various takeover offers for its fertilisers business.
$KMD Brands Ltd (KMD.AU)$ shares sank 9.3 per cent after the company said in its latest trading update that weak consumer sentiment had hurt sales.
