Elon Musk announced the launch of a new artificial intelligence (A.I.) startup, xAI, with the goal of "understanding the universe" and reality.
Why is it relevant to Tesla?
On its website, xAI says that it will "work closely" with Twitter, $Tesla (TSLA.US)$, and other companies.
We are a separate company from X Corp, but will work closely with X (Twitter), Tesla, and other companies to make progress towards our mission."

Musk also announced xAI's first 12 employees, including himself. The team consists primarily of former researchers at OpenAI, DeepMind, $Alphabet-C (GOOG.US)$, $Microsoft (MSFT.US)$, Tesla and the University of Toronto, where "A.I. godfather" Geoffrey Hinton teaches.

Tesla says it is "increasingly focused on products and services based on artificial intelligence, robotics and automation." Tesla's website invites people to help "build the future of artificial intelligence" with a variety of products, from the "Tesla Bot" known as Optimus to A.I. interface chips that will run Tesla's automated driving software."
It's unclear how xAI and Tesla would cooperate. xAI will hop onto Twitter Spaces this Friday (July 14) for some Q&A.
What are the ultimate goals of Elon's master plan?
The formation of xAI might be an important step towards his end game of creating X: the everything app, according to Alex Valaitis from Twitter.

Elon is assembling all of the pieces, now he just needs to put them together," said Valaitis.

Mooers, are you bullish on the future for xAI?
Musk has been talking for months about creating an alternative product to OpenAI's ChatGPT and similar chatbots. In his opinion, Big Tech companies like Google and Microsoft are too focused on profitability and don't care enough about A.I. safety. "I'm starting very late in the game, of course. But I will create a third option that hopefully does more good than harm. This might be the best path to A.I. safety," Musk said in an April interview.

  • J David : You can not have a safe AI company if your leadership is leaning against the truth and pushing personal views over data driven facts. These things are completely at odds with a safe, non-biased AI's ability to make reasonable decisions not effectively biased towards a skewed viewpoint of the creator (God). AI can only ever be as safe as the flawed Programmers who believe they can make it safe under the definition of "safety" in their own minds. This in itself will cause a lack of safety for whatever group that the God's disagree with on an intellectual and philosophical level. Safety is not only about the physical, safety can also be included in the mental health and wellbeing of our fellows. Just my opinion!

  • Kawan : He has limitless development capabilities

  • Sherratt42 J David : It’s coming no matter what you think, actually it’s already here.
I believe Musk will do whatever he has to to control A.I in the safety aspect but others won’t and like everything will be abused
