AU Evening Wrap: ASX Finishes 0.5% Higher After RBA Decision; Technology Stocks Rally

The benchmark $S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ index was buoyed by all the 11 industry sectors.

The interest rate sensitive information technology sector was the best performer, up 1.2 per cent. $WiseTech Global Ltd (WTC.AU)$ shares were up 0.9 per cent, $Xero Ltd (XRO.AU)$ 1.4 per cent and $Nextdc Ltd (NXT.AU)$ 2.4 per cent.

Consumer staples stocks reacted positively to the central bank's decision and finished higher. Supermarket giants $Woolworths Group Ltd (WOW.AU)$ and $Coles Group Ltd (COL.AU)$ bounced back from yesterday's sell-off, rallying 1.2 per cent and 0.8 per cent respectively.

The miners extended gains recorded from earlier in the trading session. $Fortescue Ltd (FMG.AU)$ added 1.9 per cent and $BHP Group Ltd (BHP.AU)$ edged up 0.8 per cent.

$TPG Telecom Ltd (TPG.AU)$ shares soared 11.6 per cent after coming out of a trading halt. The Australian Financial Review's Street Talk column had revealed on Tuesday afternoon that TPG was negotiating a multibillion-dollar sale and leaseback of its non-mobile fibre assets with Macquarie-backed rival Vocus.

$Credit Corp Group Ltd (CCP.AU)$ plunged 12.6 per cent after it reported a 5 per cent drop in net profit for the full year.

Shares in $Patriot Battery Metals Inc (PMT.AU)$ surged 10.6 per cent following news of a $120 million share placement with NYSE-listed chemicals giant Albemarle.
