After the US stock market on August 1, AMD announced its results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2023. Q2 revenue was US$5.359 billion, down 18% year on year, exceeding market expectations; adjusted operating profit of US$1,068 million, in line with analysts' expectations, down 46% year on year; and adjusted earnings per share (EPS) was $0.58, down 45% year on year. Additionally, AMD expects the data center and embedded business to grow throughout the fiscal year compared to the previous year. After the financial report was released, AMD's stock price once rose sharply by nearly 6% in after-hours trading. Both revenue and profit exceeded expectations.

Second quarter results:

1. Non-GAAP adjusted revenue was approximately US$5.359 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 18%;

2. Adjusted earnings per share (EPS) was $0.58, down 45% year on year;

3. Operating profit margin is 20%, down 10 percentage points year on year and 1 percentage point month on month;

4. The adjusted gross profit margin was 50%, down 4 percentage points from the previous year, and remained flat at the level of the first quarter;

5. The adjusted operating profit was US$1,068 million, in line with analysts' expectations, down 46% year on year and 3% month on month;

6. The adjusted net profit was US$948 million, down 44% year on year and 2% month on month.

The value indicates that the strong second-quarter results were due to a sharp increase in sales of fourth-generation EPYC CPUs in the data center business and Ryzen 7000 CPUs related to the PC business.
