$CATHAY PAC AIR (00293.HK)$ and $SIA (C6L.SG)$ witness contrasting fortunes, intensifying their competition. Cathay's shares have soared by 21% since June, outperforming Asia peers, while Singapore Airlines has risen by 11% in the same period.
Cathay experiences a surge in buy recommendations, propelling bullish sentiment to its highest level in over a decade. It is attributed to attractive valuations and the potential for a profitable turnaround. In contrast, due to valuation concerns, Singapore Airlines has faced downgrades since June.
Cathay's upcoming earnings report on August 9 could fuel further positive momentum. Analysts emphasize Cathay's underestimated post-pandemic earnings power and its leading market share in Hong Kong. As the rivalry continues, valuation disparities and resilient travel demand shape the outlook for both airlines.
Will Cathay's upcoming earnings report validate the surge in buy recommendations and reinforce its potential for a profitable rebound?
How will the competition between Cathay Pacific Airways and Singapore Airlines impact investment opportunities in the aviation sector?

  • ZnWC : It's absurd to compare the 2 airlines because they serve different groups of customers and operate differenly. It's like asking why not compare with Qatar Airways or Quantas Airlines. Cathay Pacific upcoming earnings will be positive and share rating will be good too due to the fact that travelling by air is in high demand in the coming months.

The only concern is long term sustainability which will depend on marketing and business strategy such as cost management and collaboration. Both airlines has done well in the above. Cathay Pacific has an added advantages that it serves more regional flights service in China due to proximity. Singapore Airlines is trying to increase its market share in India.

Whoever can innovate faster will be the winner. But this is not a zero sum game. I see no reason why the 2 airlines can't work in partnership for win-win.

  • Kuku bird on fire ❤ : Cathay upcoming earnings profitable or not it will still anyhow fly, fly to don't know where also. Compare Cathay and SIA we will still believe and invest in SIA, cause Cathay anyhow fly one.

  • Stock Watch : Is hard for Cathay's to compete with SIA.. Maybe SIA may lose out in HK and China markets. But for the overall  SIA will always be in front. SIA is willing to spend millions and millions of dollars on new planes, upgrading the planes and the services.  In Hokkien saying: bi bo yen and no horse run.
