Nio first smartphone has been granted a license to access the Internet in China, the last major process that needs to be completed before the device can be sold in the country.
In China, for major smartphone players, the release of a new phone is usually about a month away from getting a network access license.
CEO William Li said that one of the key things that drove the company's decision to get into phone making was the fact that the experience of car owners increasingly relies on a seamless connection between the phone and the vehicle.
Nio's first phone model will be released in the third quarter and deliveries will begin in the same quarter. It may also be used as a car key.
