China poses a legitimate national security threat in autonomous vehicles - Lidar Coalition
Hesai (mentioned in the article), Innovusion, Livox and Robosense are China based LiDAR sensor makers. The 4 Chinese companies separately supply LiDAR sensors to Chinese EV companies like Li Auto, Jidu (Baidu), NIO, BYD, Zeekr and Xpeng. Congress is considering restricting their Autonomous Vehicles testing due to security concerns.
On the other hand, Tesla's Full-Self Drive has no issue because it uses camera-based system and operates in many countries for years. Tesla also dumped LiDAR because the sensor is too expensive and it used HD mapping which is too costly to make.
