2024 Iranian presidential election Mr. Pezeshkian faces off against Mr. Jalili in the runoff

In Iran, a presidential election runoff is being held between the centrist Masoud Pezeshkian and the conservative hardliner Syed Jalili.
Mr. Pezeshkian stood at the top by winning about 42.5% in the first round of voting on 6/28, but did not reach a complete victory. Jalili was in second place with around 38.7%.
Mr. Jalili will prioritize internal affairs, regional relations, and ties with Russia and China, and it is expected that Mr. Pezeshkian will step up efforts to lift sanctions against Iran.
Domestically, moderates and reformers are likely to criticize internet restrictions, responses to nationwide protests, and large-scale corruption and embezzlement cases.
Both sides accuse them of pursuing politics so much that they are mutually inefficient and take actions contrary to the interests of the people.
