A tanker loaded with oil sinks off the coast of the Philippines
According to Philippine authorities, a tanker loaded with about 1.4 million liters of industrial heavy oil sank off the coast of the country. The tanker was registered in the Philippines and capsized near the capital Manila.
According to Director Jaime Bautista of the Philippine Department of Transportation, 16 crew members have been rescued, but 1 person is missing. Authorities are working to contain the crude oil spill. It is currently unclear whether this accident is related to typhoon No. 21 (Gaemi), which killed at least 13 people in the Philippines.
