Airlines increase flights over Afghanistan due to Middle Eastern tension
According to Reuters flight data analysis, several airlines have changed their flight routes from the Middle East and have resumed flights over Afghanistan, which is a relatively safe option.
Amid growing concerns about an all-out war between Israel, Lebanon, and Iran, in response to heightened tension in the Middle East,Singapore Airlines、British Airways、Lufthansaetc. made this change.
Since the Taliban took power in 2021 and air traffic control services were suspended, airlines almost stopped flying over Afghanistan, which is the main flight route connecting Asia and Europe.
“As the dispute progressed, the calculation of which airspace to use changed. Airlines are trying to mitigate risk as much as possible, and given the current tense relationship between Iran and Israel, they think flying over Afghanistan is a safer option,” said Ian Pechenick, a spokesperson for the aviation tracking organization Flight Radar 24.
