Alberta wildfires threaten Canadian Natural, Imperial, and MEG Energy oil rigs

OilPrice.com reported on Thursday that nearly 20 new wildfires have occurred across Alberta in the past 24 hours, threatening oil production of 0.4 million barrels or more per day, mainly on the south side of Fort McMurray, the center of the oil sands.

According to Bloomberg, the fire boosted heavy crude oil prices in Canada, and the discount for West Texas Intermediate, which is the benchmark for Western Canadian Select, was reduced from $14 per barrel on Tuesday to $13.10 per barrel on Wednesday.
