Alibaba Launches AI Model 'Tongyi Qianwen' Like ChatGPT, to Change Business
Alibaba announced on Wednesday that it will be opening its artificial intelligence model, Tongyi Qianwen, to the public, indicating that it has received approval from Chinese regulators to mass-market the model. This move comes as China has been accelerating efforts to support companies developing AI, as it becomes a key area of competition with the United States.
Additionally, an open-source version of the large language model will soon be available for free commercial use by the whole society.
In an internal letter to Alibaba staff, newly installed Alibaba Group CEO, Eddie Wu, stated that AI will be at the center of the company's future strategy. He emphasized that over the next decade, AI will bring about significant disruptions across all sectors, and if companies do not keep up with the changes brought about by AI, they will be displaced.
Alibaba first introduced Tongyi Qianwen in April, stating that the AI large language model, similar to ChatGPT, would be integrated into all business applications.
