Amazon to Launch Discount Store to Compete with Temu and Shein

Amazon plans to introduce a new section on its site for low-priced fashion and lifestyle items, targeting competition from Temu and Shein. This storefront will allow Chinese sellers to ship directly to U.S. consumers.

The storefront will offer unbranded items, mostly under $20, with delivery times of nine to eleven days. This cost-saving model for Chinese sellers will enable them to test new items through small-batch production, similar to Shein's on-demand manufacturing.

Amazon's spokesperson Maria Boschetti stated, "We are always exploring new ways to work with our selling partners to delight our customers with more selection, lower prices, and greater convenience."

Set to start accepting products this fall, the launch aims to boost Amazon's market presence among Chinese merchants. In 2023, Amazon reported a 20% increase in items sold by Chinese sellers and a 30% rise in merchants with sales over $10 million.
