Apple announced a new MacBook Air laptop equipped with the latest M3 chip.

On Monday, Apple announced new versions of 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air laptops featuring the latest M3 chip.

In October, Apple announced a more powerful version of the M3 chip for iMac desktop computers and MacBook Pro laptops. Apple recorded $7.780 million in Mac sales for the first quarter of the fiscal year, with growth of less than 1%. The latest computers may help boost the company's sales.

According to Apple, the new MacBook Air laptops feature a sharper 1080p webcam, support for faster Wi-Fi networks, and achieve up to 18 hours of battery life. The design remains unchanged from the old model, but the new M3 chip allows users to add up to two external displays, an improvement from the previous chip that supported only one screen.

Apple demonstrated a strengthened marketing focus on artificial intelligence in this announcement.

The new MacBook Air was dubbed as the "world's best consumer laptop with AI support." This is an interesting shift in language as Apple did not mention this when they announced the iMac with M3 in October, indicating an attempt to compete with new Windows laptops branded as "AI PC."

However, the most popular AI platforms like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude do not operate directly on computers, but rather operate in the cloud via internet connection. Apple stated that apps like Pixelmator Pro can use AI to remove background noise from photos.

Apple's CEO Tim Cook stated on February 28 that Apple is making a "significant investment" in artificial intelligence and hinted at a major announcement in the second half of this year. This announcement may take place at Apple's usual June Worldwide Developer Conference where new software is typically announced. There is also a possibility that Apple may announce its own large-scale language model that operates locally on other devices such as Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

The 13-inch MacBook Air starts at $1,099, while the 15-inch starts at $1,299. It will be available for order starting Monday and will be in stores from March 8.
